Tips For Making Acai Bowls That Won”t Make You Gain Weight.
This Acai (ah-sigh-EE) Bowl recipe from our sister company Real Raw Live has only five ingredients and is so delicious! We started making the açaí bowl in our Hollywood juice bar 15 years ago, Although açaí is popular all over Brazil, in the 1970s it first started to appear in Rio de Janeiro, after multiple martial artist began using it for training diets.
Acai berries themselves are actually quite low in sugar, containing close to 0 grams per 100-gram serving. According to the Mayo Clinic, acai berries are higher in antioxidants than other popular berries such as cranberries, blueberries and strawberries. Acai bowls are basically super thick smoothie bowls with a very special ingredient -acai berry puree! It tastes amazing all while giving you a serious dose of goodies including what you add on top. but there are a lot of potential pitfalls, especially if you'd like to lose weight.
The acai puree packets that we like to use to make the bowls are not an issue—a 100 gram packet of Sambazon purée contains just 70 calories, 5 grams of fat, and no sugar. It’s the other ingredients like the toppings and the size that adds up. Therefore we recommend you make them yourself.
Use frozen bananas and blueberries for a thicker acai bowl. It's all about using very cold ingredients for the best thickness. Start with less plant based milk to make your homemade acai bowl thicker, then add more as needed.
Pass on added sweeteners, like honey, since you already get so much natural sugar from the fruits.
Add a protein source, like a natural almond butter or chia seeds, which can help lower the glycemic load and stabilize your blood sugar.
Throw some greens into the mix.
To balance out some of the sugar, try blending a spoonful of our rHorlistigreens Megablend which is rich in super foods and dense with Phyto nutrients. HolistiGreens™ is not your average Green Formula. This amazing blend also includes: Coenzyme Q10, Bee Pollen, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Flax Seed, Echinacea, Royal Jelly, Ginger root, green tea and more. Over 50 ingredients in all.
When they are done right Acai bowls are a great whole food choice for meal or snack!
(You can buy frozen acai puree packets online or at your local health food store.)
